The struggle is real: hunting for video is getting much more frustrating

At least half of consumers (55%) find themselves looking for a new TV show or movie to watch at least once per week.

While 90% of consumers under 30 say that streaming services play a huge role in their discovery of new video content. In fact, this significantly exceeds the influence of social media on the content discovery process.

However those streaming services falls short when it comes to providing good recommendation. One of the reasons is the lack of trust, 60% believe personalized recommendations reflect shows the service is trying to promote.

Consumers want more clarity, context, the ‘why’ behind the recommendation.

So what can a service offer that would make a consumer more likely to watch personalized recommendations.

Get personal!

Include editorial context. Use an editorial team to make the content relevant on a mass social scale.  Gather, organize and present content related to a particular theme or topic. Provide information about the actors, reviews, social media talks etc.

All in all new technologies is essential: AI, metadata, and machine learning are set to revolutionize content discovery as we know it.
